Crist in Brevard to discuss shuttle layoffs

Gov. Charlie Crist is meeting with space industry leaders this evening to discuss the expected loss of 7,000 aerospace jobs when the shuttle retires.

Among the dignataries gathered for the discussion: Rep. Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach, several of Brevard's state lawmakers, representatives of all the major space industries and Brevard Workforce director Lisa Rice.

Rice said that Crist is not expected to announce any major workforce funding initiative.

Originally, Crist was expected to tour the NASA Shuttle Logistics Depot in Cape Canaveral but that was cancelled due to his later arrival.

The governor is seeking ways the state can confront the expected loss of the space jobs.

People currently employed at KSC better start NOW getting their resumes in order, putting feelers out and accept the fact that you may have to sell your house for less than what you owe and move out of the area. Now is the time to be proactive about this issue.

Mr Crist was here for a photo opportunity. Nothing more. If you fall for his BS. you have been assimilated.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic or ungrateful, but what can this panel do about the issue. Just can't think of a thing.
